Detect malware

Finding the best product to detect malware

There is little doubt that the internet and computers have
made our lives better in a number of important ways. From
the ability to have a library’s worth of information at our
disposal day and night, to the ability to download a
favorite song from our childhood, the internet has opened up
possibilities undreamed of a few decades ago. Every
technological advance comes with its own set of challenges,
however, and the internet is certainly no exception. Every
computer user today needs a solid way to detect malware and
remove it from their system.

The ability to detect malware is vital, since this malicious
software is steadily making inroads across the internet. A
few years ago, adware, spyware and other malware was not
that much of a threat, and the majority of the focus
remained on computer viruses and Trojan horse programs.

What has changed
While viruses and Trojan horse programs are certainly still
around, and they can and do still damage computers, adware,
spyware and other forms of malicious software are quickly
gaining on and in some cases overtaking viruses as the
number one security threat. For this reason, every computer
owner, no matter what the computer is used for or how often
it goes online, must have a way to detect malware and
eliminate the threat it poses.

Understanding the threat posed by malware
The different types of malware on the internet work in
different ways, and pose different kinds of threats. Some
forms of malware are merely annoying, generating a ton of
pop up ads when we visit a favorite web site, or slowing
down our web browser by running programs in the background.

Other forms of malware, however, are much more dangerous.
For instance, some malicious programs actively seek to
record keystrokes in the hopes of capturing passwords,
account numbers and other vital information. After this
information is captured, it is emailed off to the person who
planted the malware, and used to make fraudulent charges to
credit cards or even to steal the identity of the victim.

It is this type of malware that is the most dangerous, and
it is the reason that detecting malware is so important. If
you have been online without running some sort of adware and
spyware protection, chances are the program you install will
instantly detect malware on your computer. It is vital to
find such a program and use it to detect and delete any
malware it finds.

Where to turn for help
Fortunately for the average computer user there are a number
of software solutions that make it quite easy to detect
malware and send it on its way. Most of the major anti
virus software makers also make programs that can detect and
eliminate malware, so a good place to start is with the
company that made your anti virus software. Some anti virus
software companies have begun to incorporate the detection
and elimination of spyware and other malicious software into
their regular virus updates, so you may already be protected
in that way.

If you are not currently protected, there are a number of
excellent standalone programs that provide excellent
protection against all sorts of malware threats. It is a
good idea to read the reviews of several products, either
online or in one of the many computer magazines that line
newsstand shelves. These reviews will give you a good idea
of what to look for in a malware detection and removal tool.
